Package Components
The Music Kit is a complete system for introductory music training. The package includes:
- Workbook
The Workbook addresses all the fundamental aspects of musical pitch, including scales, intervals, key signatures, melody, harmony, and musical form. - Rhythm Reader and Scorebook
The Rhythm Reader presents the basic rhythmic notation symbols and principles of rhythmic organization. The Scorebook includes 85 pieces of music chosen from a wide range of repertories and styles for singing, skill development, and music analysis. - Audio CD
This new compact disc includes the 61 core rhythmic patterns in the Rhythm Reader and twelve pieces from the Scorebook that demonstrate specific principles discussed in the books. - Computer Software for Macintosh and Windows
This updated dual-platform CD-ROM offers exercises in pitch recognition, interval identification, scales, key signatures, chords, and rhythm. Features include interactive prompts that guide students to correct answers, review quizzes, and abundant on-screen help, and personalized feedback and evaluation.
New Focus on Aural Skills
A complete, parallel course for elementary sight singing has been integrated into The Music Kit for the first time. Several new types of sight-singing exercises appear in the Rhythm Reader, and the most popular sight-singing methods are introduced in the Workbook. In addition, the Scorebook melodies have been ordered to accommodate a basic sight-singing curriculum, progressing from simple major to natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, pentatonic, and other modes.
New End-of-Chapter Exercises in the Workbook
Review exercises at the end of every chapter reinforce those within the chapter and provide the synthesis necessary for mastering concepts. Exercises can be pulled out and submitted to the instructor.
Fully-tracked Audio CD
Fresh new digital recordings of the core rhythms employ a wide variety of percussion sounds. In addition, recordings of the twelve Scorebook pieces exemplify the different performance styles of folk, classical, pop, and jazz music.
Immediate Reinforcement of Concepts
The Music Kit is the only text to reinforce each concept immediately after it is presented with exercises and composition projects. Activities are incorporated throughout the text rather than relegated to the end of the chapter or book. In this way, students are encouraged to practice their skills frequently and are able to master them more efficiently.
Integrated Set of Tools
With the understanding that students learn best through a variety of methods, The Music Kit employs a diverse range of activities and mediums designed to foster skill development. With the Workbook, audio CD, Rhythm Reader, Scorebook, and CD-ROM, students have a wide range of learning materials at their disposal. The broad scope of the package allows students to adapt The Music Kit to their learning style.
Complete Coverage
No other text on the market offers more coverage of rhythm than The Music Kit, and it remains the only text to provide a complete score anthology for study, practice, and performance. In addition, no other text presents material from several viewpoints in layered fashion, each new layer offering a different approach. Along with the multimedia components, this depth of coverage sets The Music Kit apart from all other fundamentals texts.
