These different approaches to behavior are discussed in the first four chapters—Chapters 2 and 3 are devoted to Natural Selection and Proximate Causes; Chapters 4 and 5 cover Learning and Cultural Transmission—building a strong basis for discussion in the text. Throughout the remainder of the text, Dugatkin incorporates learning and cultural transmission issues whenever they are applicable to the behaviors discussed.
Seventeen in-depth interviews
Professor Dugatkin conducted interviews with seventeen leading animal behavior researchers (including E. O. Wilson, Richard Alexander, John Krebs, Sara Shettleworth, Malte Andersson, and Judy Stamps) exclusively for Principles of Animal Behavior. The purpose of these interviews is to showcase some trailblazing research of the field.
