  1. Ghalib's work within the ghazal tradition invites comparison with the earlier work of Sufi mystical poet Jalâloddin Rumi. Like Rumi's poetry, covered in "The Rise of Islam and Islamic Literature," Ghalib's poetry speaks of love in metaphoric terms (see pages 1541–1549 in volume B).
