Key Contemporary Buildings: Plans, Sections and Elevations
Rob Gregory
Praise for Key Contemporary Buildings
"Tightly written, clearly organized and well-stocked with consistently distinguished works across a wide range of building types. As a thoughtfully edited survey, this book is a valuable record of current architectural production."
—Urban Design Review
Overview
Third in the Key series (Key Buildings of the Twentieth Century, Key Houses of the Twentieth Century), this book features 95 buildings of the early twenty-first century, including works by eminent architects such as Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, OMA, and Frank Gehry, as well as those by emerging architects, such as Jamie Fobert and Sou Fujimoto. The buildings are organized by plan type: Centralized Plans; Linear Structures; Terraced Houses; Stacked Plans; Orthogonal and Eccentric Courtyards; Cityscape Responses; and Infills, Additions, and Extensions.
Each of the buildings is illustrated with one or two full-color photographs and accurate scale floor plans, elevations, and sections, as appropriate. All of these have been specially drawn for the book and are based on the most up-to-date information and sources. A concise text discusses the architect's response to the building type and explains the significant architectural features of the building's anatomy.
The quality and number of the line drawings allows all the buildings to be understood in detail and, together with the authoritative text and images, make this book indispensable for all students of contemporary architecture.
